GenieMat® FFNP

ACOUSTIC UNDERLAY FOR UNDER SCREED

GenieMat FFNP Screed acoustic Underlay

What is GenieMat® FFNP?

GenieMat FFNP is a flat, resilient, under screed acoustic underlay made from recycled car tyres. It is predominantly used to meet the impact sound insulation performance standards for floors set out in Approved Document E (Part E) of the British Building Regulations 2010.

When this acoustic underlay is installed in conjunction with GenieMat PMI perimeter isolation it provides a low-risk, high-performance solution to meeting Part E of the Building Regulations.

Which buildings can I use
GenieMat FFNP in?

GenieMat FFNP acoustic underlay can also be used any building types where a screed has been specified and Building Regulation compliance or other acoustic criteria have been stipulated.

Design Guide

The Devil is in the Detail (and the execution)!

As with many products in the construction industry the devil is in the detail and the execution of that detail on site. Performance is directly tied to detailing and execution.

Acoustic underlay is no different. If the acoustic underlay is detailed and executed correctly the risk of lower than expected performance due to the the acoustic underlay system is very low.

TIPS FOR DESIGNERS

What is GenieMat FFNP made from?

GenieMat FFNP has two ingredients, recycled post consumer car tyres and a binder. Thats 94% recycled content!

Does GenieMat FFNP help towards BREEAM certification?

Yes. This acoustic underlay is 94% recycled content so it will fit into BREEAM MAT 03.

Which GenieMat FFNP should I specify?

This all depends on your floor/ceiling build up and the targeted impact and airborne sound insulation performance. We have test data for a number of systems and will be able to help guide you to the right solution. Please contact James Bligh jbligh@pliteq.com to talk this through.

What is the minimum screed depth required above GenieMat FFNP?

BS 8204-1 provides specific guidance on the required screed depths for both bonded and unbounded screed. So we would recommend referring to this standard.

My project does not have the allowance for a 65mm+ screed

In this instance we would not recommend an under screed acoustic underlay system as it will not meet the standards set out in BS 8204-1. Instead we would recommend using a different acoustic underlay such as GenieMat RST which can be installed above a thin latex or equivalent levelling system and directly below your hard surface floor finish.

Can GenieMat FFNP be used under screed and cement board?

Yes. On projects where wet trades are being avoided GenieMat FFNP can be installed directly under any type of board material. For further details please contact James Bligh jbligh@pliteq.com

What is the most important design detail?

The flanking perimeter isolation detail shown above is considered one of the most important details.

No matter how good your acoustic underlay is if there is no perimeter isolation or it is poorly installed this will significantly reduce the performance of the overall system. For more details on getting this detail right do reach out to us.

Which projects has GenieMat FFNP been used on in the UK?

GenieMat FFNP has been installed on many projects in the UK stretching back to 2012. Please refer to the downloads section for a few cases studies and for further information please reach out to Neil Johnson njohnson@pliteq.com

TIPS FOR CONTRACTORS

What is the best roll joint installation detail?

A butt or an overlap joint can be used. One detail is not necessarily better than the other but the overlap joint provides greater security at the joints of the rolls BUT it will consume slightly more material on site.

In both instances the joint needs to be taped securely to stop screed getting into the joints and causing an acoustic bridge.

How big is one pallet of material?

Approximately 1.02(L) x 1.22(W) x 1.24m(H) per pallet. Material is normally delivered in full pallet loads.

Can GenieMat FFNP be stored outside?

We do not recommend it but yes. Assuming that it is covered GenieMat FFNP has a large operating temperature so should not be affected by heat or cold.

Does GenieMat FFNP meet Approved Document E (Part E)?

Yes. When combined with a minimum of 150mm concrete slab and a screed which meets the requirements of BS 8204-1 code compliance and improvements on the standards can be achieved with both GenieMat FF03NP and GenieMat FF05NP.

Do I need to use perimeter isolation strip with GenieMat FFNP?

Yes! Perimeter isolation is integral to the performance of the acoustic underlay system. Flanking noise, as a result of no perimeter isolation is the most common reason for failure of both Pre Completion Tested and Robust Details systems.

What type of tape should I use for the joints between rolls?

Any type of of cloth, duct, gaffa, carpet or single sided tape can be used. As it will be exposed to some moisture from the screed we do not recommend parcel or sellotape is used.

Can GenieMat FFNP be used as a robust detail?

There is no Robust Detail associated with the GenieMat FFNP products but we have both laboratory and on site test data to show compliance to Approved Document E. For specific technical questions please contact James Bligh at jbligh@pliteq.com

Can I buy GenieMat FFNP material direct from Pliteq in the UK?

Our UK based technical and sales team will provide you pricing and technical support, but in most cases we work with a network of local, regional, national and online distributors to get product to you in the most timely fashion.

It you have any questions on this or would like to be become a distributor please contact Neil Johnson njohnson@pliteq.com

How is GenieMat FFNP delivered?

Material is normally delivered in full pallet loads.
GenieMat FF03NP = 12 rolls per pallet
GenieMat FF03NP-L40 = 20 rolls per pallet
GenieMat FF05NP = 18 rolls per pallet.

But our distributors can split pallets for less that pallet load deliveries.
